PRESBYCUSIS

It is a condition in Which Gradually Hearing loss as By the Increase of Age. This is an Old age Hearing Loss Called Presbycusis.

Clinical Manifestations

• Tinnitus (ringing in ear)
• Difficulty to understand speech
• Vertigo.
• Difficulty in Hearing

Etiology/Risk Factors

Inflammatory conditions
 Heredity
Hypertension 
Excessive intake of fat and Salt in diet 


• Diabetes
• Smoking
• Excessive intake of ototoxic drugs such as aspirin
• Excessive Production of Wax
• Exposure to excessive loud noise
• Alcoholism
• High body mass index.

Diagnostic Evaluation

• History collection
• Physical examination
• Tympanometry
• MRI
• Blood test to diagnose inflammatory disorders
• Otoscopy.

Management

The use of a hearing aid is recommended as treatment for age-associated hearing loss.

Complications

• Loss of self esteem
• Social isolation
• Irritation
• Anger
• Dementia
