Pathophysiology

1 • Viral Infection
• Genetic factors
- Destruction of normal bone
- Releases enzymes
- Impairment of vestibular and cochlear functions
- Deposition of calcium in the tissue (calcification)
- Fixation of stapes bone
- Immobilization of footplate in oval window
Clinical Manifestations
- Vertigo or dizziness
- Tinnitus (ringing in the ear)
- Speaking softly
- Hearing better in noisy surrounding (paracusis)
- Earache
- Difficulty in communication
- Loss of hearing
- Deafness (only in severe condition).

- Otoscopic test.

- Physical examination
- Rinne test
Management
Medical Management
- Hearing aid
- Auditory rehabilitation.
Drugg therapy:

Surgical Management
Stapedectomy: It is a surgical treatment which is performed Through the local anaesthesia.
In this surgery, an, endural, incision, is made by using operating microscope. The stapes structure is removed and a small hole is made in the footplate with
a drill or laser
