INC (Indian Nursing Council) Ans All Question Asked By BSc Nursing Student

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) in respect of Revised B.Sc Nursing competency based

syllabus are compiled and placed as below-

Q. How many supplementary examination a student is allowed to take to clear the semester?

Ans: INC has specified broad examination regulations in revised B.Sc.(N) syllabus (link:
Individual universities can make their own plans to execute the same.
-Regular examinations are specified in the syllabus every semester and the supplementary
examinations of previous semesters can be planned by the University during all regular exams.
-The maximum period to complete the course successfully should not exceed eight years.

Q. How much attendance classroom and clinical separately does the student require tobe eligible for the examination?

Ans: In this regard, refer Examination Regulations of B.Sc.(N) syllabus where it is clearly
mentioned-
-A candidate must have minimum of 80% attendance (irrespective of the kind of absence) in
theory and practical in each course / subject for appearing for examination.
-A candidate must have 100% attendance in each of the practical areas before award of degree.

Q. If a student does not have the requisite attendance in the current semester eg. Semester 1 can she be allowed to join the next semester? If allowed, which semester exam can she take- semester 1 or 2? How will the attendance (theory & practical hours) and assignment requirements to complete of both semesters? Similarly, semester 2 has nursing foundation practical exam and without attendance hours/ not appearing in semester 1 can she be allowed to take semester 2 examination esp. nursing foundation practical as well as theory subjects?

Ans: As per INC guidelines, candidate shall be permitted to attend the consecutive semesters.
The attendance requirement as per INC guidelines above to be adhered strictly.
The candidate can be allowed to join II semester and to appear for I & II semesters provided
he/she fulfils all the requirements-attendance and internal assessment marks.
Not allowed for theory/practical in II semester if the candidate does not have attendance and
fulfilled the other requirements.

i. The candidate shall have cleared all the previous examinations before appearing for fifth
semester examination. However, the candidates shall be permitted to attend the consecutive
semesters.
ii. The candidate shall have cleared all the previous examinations before appearing for seventh
semester examination. However, the candidates shall be permitted to attend the consecutive
semesters.
1iii. The candidate shall have cleared all the previous examination before appearing for final
year examination.
iv. The maximum period to complete the course successfully should not exceed 8 years.

Q. Does odd semester subjects supplementary examination have to be in odd semester regular examinations only and similarly for even semester subject or can all the subject be put in all semester examinations.

Ans: In odd semesters when two regular odd semester examinations are conducted, the

supplementary in the same examinations can be of the same paper if the examination is

conducted on the same day. In this way the university load can be managed yet enable students

to appear for supplementary and progress to next semesters without losing years. However

other semesters’ supplementary examinations need to be conducted during the regular semester
exams
.

Q. If a student due to attendance shortage got detained during a semester (eg. Semester 3), will she sit with junior batch ie. 1 year back (semester 1) as there will be no classes going on with her 6 months back semester (semester 2) that time.

Ans: The concept of having a supplementary batch may have to be considered when there are
many students from the same batch with backlogs. If there is a single candidate, it is difficult
to have a supplementary batch (6 months behind the regular batch). If there are many students
from the same batch with backlogs, it can be considered. If the student does not clear the break
semester in two consecutive examinations, she / he can be put together with the junior batch.
In this case with more than two semester backlogs, the students have to be in the
supplementary batch 6 months behind or along with the junior batch.
The attendance requirement as per para (2) above to be adheres to strictly and student cannot
be permitted to appear for exam if it is not met and hence cannot be promoted to next semester
.

Q. Or will this student (as above) attend classes of next semester (semester 4) which is going on that time and be allowed to write examination of this semester 4 without even appearing for the semester 3 examination. And how will the attendance hours (theory and practical) be completed for semester 3?

Ans: Attending classes moving to next semester when previous semester exam is not taken is
applicable. However until the attendance and other requirements are completed, the student
cannot write the respective semester exam. In case the requirements are completed, student can
move on to write fourth semester but cannot move on to write the fifth semester until all the
exams up to fourth semester exams are completed with pass.
When attendance requirements are not fulfilled, the student has to repeat time and may have to
lose one semester.

Q. Once the student loses one semester esp. due to partial attendance or nil attendance how can she complete the hours of the lost semester if she is allowed to get promoted to the next semester?

Ans: Cannot be promoted when the student does not have the attendance as he/she will not
appear for exam without attendance and internal marks
.

Q. The Syllabus specifies three assessment: the first, second, and final exams. Could you please confirm if all these examinations are to be conducted by the examination board?

Ans: All the three assessments/examinations have to be conducted by the exam board in the
same pattern
.

Q. Regarding the eligibility for admission to the examination, annexure II states, pass 70% both internal and external together in prescribed theory and practical examination. However, under certification B (iii), it mentions that a candidate has passed with 70% marks combining both internal and external assessment. Could you clarify whether the 70% threshold applies to the combined scores of theory and practical exams, or to internal and external assessments?

Ans: Pass for theory and practical: 70 % marks of combining both the internal and external
assessment together is the pass for theory. In the same way, 70% marks of combining internal
and external together is pass for practical

Q. Are the mark sheets for all three assessments are to be issued by the examination board?

Ans: The mark sheets for all the three exams also have to be given by the Exam board. A
sample mark sheet by board is given in the annexure B of the curriculum.
