ENTROPION (eyelid folds inward)

Entropion is a condition in which inward folding of eyelid of eye this is known as Entropian (eyelid folds inward)

Types

1- Spastic: Orbicularis oculi muscle spasm.
2- Cicatricial: It occurs due to: below reasons

  • Burn
  • Operations
  • Trachoma (stage IV)
  • Ulcerative blephritis.

Etiology/Risk Factors

  • Muscle weakness
  • Eye infection
  • Previous surgeries
  • Scar formation
  • Inflammation
  • Spasm
  • Scarring
  • Congenital
  • Older age
  • Previous burns
  • ⁠• Trachoma infection
  • Previous injury.

Signs and Symptoms

  • Epiphora
  • Eye irritation
  • Eye redness
  • Sensitivity to light and wind
  • Pain around the eye
  • Decreased or impaired vision
  • Excessive tearing
  • Sagging skin around the eye.

Diagnostic Evaluation

  • History collection
  • Physical examination
  • Routine eye exam
  • Snap test: pinch the eyelid and lifting up In this test
    observe how much take time of getting back of eyelid

Management

Medical management on temporary basis:

  • Injection of botulinum toxin in laser lid.
  • Soft contact lenses
  • Application of transparent skin tape on eyelid.

Surgery

Tight muscles of affected eyelid.

  • Administer antibiotic ointment in after operative management
    •Apply cold compresses to decrease swell
