Entropion is a condition in which characterized by inward folding of eyelid of eye this Condition called Entropion
Types
- Spastic:
spasm of orbicularis oculi muscle. - Cicatricial:
It occurs due to: - Burn
- Operations
- Trachoma (stage IV)
- Ulcerative blephritis.
Etiology/Risk Factors
- Muscle weakness
- Eye infection
- Previous surgeries
- Scar formation
- Inflammation
- Spasm
- Scarring
- Congenital
- Older age
- Previous burns
- Trachoma infection
- Previous injury
Signs and Symptoms
- Epiphora
- Eye irritation
- Eye redness
- Sensitivity to light and wind
- Pain around the eye
- Decreased or impaired vision
- Excessive tearing
- Sagging skin around the eye.
Diagnostic Evaluation
- History collection
- Physical examination
- Routine eye exam
- Snap test: In this test the eyelid is pinch gently and lifting up. Then observe the speed of getting back snap in to place.
Management
Medical management on temporary basis:
- Injection of botulinum toxin in laser lid.
- Soft contact lenses
- Application of transparent skin tape on eyelid.
Surgery
• This is done to tight the muscles near the affected eyelid.
- Administer an antibiotic ointment in atleast post operative management
- Apply cold compresses to decrease swelling.
