Definition

Cryptotia is a congenital abnormality of ear in which condition an articular muscle abnormality causes upper portion of outer ear cartilage partially hidden underneath the side of the head. Hidden upper part of ear this is know as CRYPTOTIA (Hidden Ear,Buried Ear, Pocket Ear Deformity)

Etiology

The exact cause of cryptotia is unknown. It can occur due to genetic abnormality.

Clinical Manifestations

Malformed ear is the only feature. Except this there is no abnormality seen.

Management

  • Surgery is performed to correct cryptotia which Involves
  • – Reshaping of the cartilage
  • – Releasing of ear from its deformed position.
