ANOTIA

DEFINITION

Anotia is a congenital abnormality characterized by
absence of (external ear) pinna, outer part of ear and narrowing or
absence of ear canal is called anotia

Etiology

• Abnormality in a single gene which causes genetic
  syndrome.
• Consumption of isotretinoin drug which leads to
  birth defects.
  (TCS) Treacher collins syndrome: It is a genetic disorder
  characterized by abnormally growth and development of head
  and face of a child.

Pathophysiology

1. During fetal life complex process of
   development around 5′” week
2. Cells move to correct position for ear formation
3. • Usage of Isotretinoin drug
4. • Imbalanced diet (diet low in carbohydrate and folic acid)
5. • Genetic abnormality
6. Interruption in process of ear formation
7. Deformed ear

Risk Factors

• Diabetes mellitus (DM)
  •Intake a diet low in folic acid and carbohydrates.

Diagnostic Evaluation

• History collection
• Physical examination
• CT or CAT

Management

• Pinnaplasty
• Use of hearing aids to improve hearing ability and speech development.
