ANOTIA

DEFINITION
Anotia is a congenital abnormality characterized by
absence of (external ear) pinna, outer part of ear and narrowing or
absence of ear canal is called anotia
Etiology
- Abnormality in a single gene which causes genetic
syndrome. - Consumption of isotretinoin drug which leads to
birth defects.
(TCS) Treacher collins syndrome: It is a genetic disorder
characterized by abnormally growth and development of head
and face of a child.
Pathophysiology
- During fetal life complex process of
development around 5′” week - Cells move to correct position for ear formation
- • Usage of Isotretinoin drug
- • Imbalanced diet (diet low in carbohydrate and folic acid)
- • Genetic abnormality
- Interruption in process of ear formation
- Deformed ear
Risk Factors
- Diabetes mellitus (DM)
•Intake a diet low in folic acid and carbohydrates.
Diagnostic Evaluation
- History collection
- Physical examination
- CT or CAT
Management
- Pinnaplasty
- Use of hearing aids to improve hearing ability and speech development.
