DEFINITION 

STYE (HORDEOLUM EXTERNUM)

Stye is the eye disorder characterized by formation of bump in eyelid this is Known as Stye and also called HORDEOLUM EXTERNUM

Etiology/Risk Factor

Mostly caused by streptococci infection.

      • Infection of eyelid.

      • Fungal Infection

    Signs and Symptoms

        • Swollen eyelid

        • Eye pain

        • Eye Bump

        • Oedematous eye

        • Yellowish discoloration due to abscess

        • Gritty sensation in eye

        • Eye tenderness

        • Heaviness of Eye

        • Eye tearing

        • Light sensitivity

        • Soreness at the edge of the eyelid.

      Diagnostic Evaluation

          • History collection

          • Physical examination

          • Eye inspection.

          • CBC (Complete Blood Investigation)

          • ESR

        Management

            • Apply hot fomentation

            • Put warm compress

            • Evacuate the pus by incising abscess

            • Administer broad spectrum antibiotics

            • Instill antibiotic eye drops to prevent infection

            • Anti-inflammation drugs

            • Analgesics to relieve pain.
