BENIGN EAR CYST

This is a condition characterized by formation of lumps and benign (Non Cancerous Growth) growth in the ear. This Situation Called BENIGN EAR CYST

Etiology/ Risk Factors

  • There is no exact cause but some factors are related to causation of benign ear cyst.
  • • Due to rapid secretion of oil by skin glands.
  • • Exposure to cold water
  • • Excessive Secretion of Earwax
  • • Exostoses (noncancerous bone tumor)
  • • Osteomas (benign bone tumor)

Signs and Symptoms

  • Gradual hearing loss
  •  Recurrent ear infections
  •  Fluid Filled Vesicles 
  •  Earache (pain in the Ear)
  •  Skin lumps (front and behind the ear).

Diagnostic Evaluation

  • History collection
  • Physical examination
  • CT scan
  • Otoscopy 
  • Audiometry
  • Tympanometry.

Management

  • No treatment required if pain is not feeling in ear.
  • Complications
  • Infection of the ear canal
  • Hearing loss
  • Otalgia 
  • Cyst infection
  • Wax trapping.
